Davy Brun studied at the Paris Opera Dance School, as well as at Max Bozzoni's Dance School. He worked at the Lyons Opera Ballet from 1993 to 1996; at the Geneva Great Theatre Ballet from 1996 to 1999; and again at the Lyons Opera Ballet from 1999 to 2004. In 2003 he obtained a Diploma of Education in Dance. Since then he combines dance with teaching and creation. He has a broad repertoire as a dancer and he has collaborated with the most prestigious companies in the world (Cullberg Ballet, Maguy Marin, Angelin Preljocaj or Matilde Monnier, among others). Among his creations Ando, Pointless Monkey, 1+1=3, and Curse can be mentioned. This work's title is related to the choreographic creation and alludes to both the individual and the group (me and us). At the same time, it tries to present the choreographic work either from a very chaotic or from a neatly structured standpoint. Such questions as "does the individual exist without the group?" or "how does he exist within the group?" are gradually delimited from the very starting point for this creation The work starts off with the dancers scattered around the stage. As the play goes on the concept of group is gradually developed through duos or solos and some questions arise along with the development of the play: "must all the individuals belong to the group?" or "do all of them have their own place within it?" The use of the light evokes Carravaggio's chiaroscuro, and its aim is to give to the bodies their true importance, to focus on the skin, and to thus underline either the group's identity or the individual's specifity. |
